Pumpkin Explosion

On Thursday afternoon, we decided to make a pumpkin explode with elastic bands. By the end of the day Thursday we had 329 elastics around our pumpkin but it still hadn't exploded. We were worried it would explode overnight.  But it didn't. :-)

Take a look at what happened...

Pumpkin Fun!

We spent most of Wednesday exploring and learning with pumpkins. We made predictions and estimations. We sorted and grouped. Here are some photos of us in action.

As we learned we also documented our learning using Book Creator on iPad.  If you're curious to learn more about our learning please check out our blog posts.

Guess My Costume

This morning we had a Skype call with Ms. Cassidy's class. We played "Guess my Halloween Costume". We took turns acting out what we are going to be for Halloween and then the other class had to guess. Some of the costumes were tricky to guess but we had fun trying.

We Are Thankful

Over the weekend, as part of our home learning, we were expected to create a sun. On each ray of the sun we wrote one thing we were thankful for. Take a look at the different suns we created. While they are all different, they all show how thankful we are.

O.R.E.O Project - Building Cookie Towers

Today we took part in the O.R.E.O. project, a project created by Jen Wagner of Projects by Jen.  We , along with children around the world, are trying to stack as many cookies as we can before our towers crumble.  Today we had our very first cookie stacking attempt.  Our tower heights ranged from 15 to 30. We used all different strategies to stack our cookies.  Tomorrow we will make our second and final attempt. What strategies do you use to stack cookies?

*If you're wondering why we are wearing such big paint t-shirts, we were painting at the same time.

Learning About the Process of Inquiry with M&Ms

We have started learning about the inquiry process through a guided exploration of M&Ms.  This exploration has brought about many questions and our exploration will continue.  We will be doing a lot of our learning through inquiry so please check back often to see what we get up to.  Here are some photos about our M&M explorations. They will continue this week as we have decided to compare M&M results with Skiddles.  Yes, we learn with candy in our classroom. :-)

This morning while Ms. Lirenman was working with some of us, others were working on solving a math problem together.  Here was the problem.

Here is some of us trying to solve it.

Can you solve the problem?

Our First Skype Call

Today we had our first Skype call of the year with Ms. Cassidy's class in Moose Jaw.  They had so many questions for us and we had many for them too.  It is a new and exciting way to learn. Here is what it looked like from our end.
