A Second Visit with Mrs. Schaefer

Mrs. Schaefer visited us again today.  We can't tell you what we are working on though because they might be Christmas gifts for our families.  All that we can tell you is that we worked with clay, we used our creativity, and we are excited to share our finished products with you.

Writing from a Web

Today Ms. Lirenman showed us how to use a web to help us expand our writing.  After the lesson we began our writing.  Someone in our class asked if we could write on the big chart paper.  Ms. Lirenman said YES and many of us chose to write on this big paper.  Here are a few pictures of us busy getting down to our writing.  You'll notice that some of us tried to use webs to help us write more interesting sentences.  Many of us really love writing.

Free Choice Friday

Almost every Friday at the end of the day we are given time to interact socially over a variety of games and activities.  Needless to say we love learning to read, write, and do math but we love socializing and working with our friends in a non structured setting.  Here are a few pictures of us enjoying our Free Choice Friday.

As you can see from the pictures we all like different activities.  What would you do if you were given Free Choice Friday time too?

Are you curious about the red flowers many of us are wearing?  These pictures were taken on Thursday, Nov. 10, the day before Remembrance Day.  Those flowers are called poppies and they are worn to help us remember all the brave soldiers that fought and lost their lives fighting for our freedom.

Addition Stations

During the month of November we have been working hard exploring the concept of addition.  We have been rotating through six different math stations, most of which are open ended so that we can work at the addition level that is just right for each of us.  Here's a little video of us working hard learning, and expanding our addition math fact knowledge.

Hot Dog Tag

Last week in gym we learned a new game called Hot Dog Tag.  To play the game  children are chosen to be "it".  Those children run around tagging the other children.  When you get tagged you must drop to the ground and pretend to be a hot dog.  The only way you can rejoin the game is by having two friends act as buns around you.  One lies down beside you on your left side, and one lies down beside you on your right side.  When that happens all three of you are free to run around again,  trying hard to avoid getting tagged again.  We want to thank Ms. Baldry and Ms. Sutherland for teaching Ms. Lirenman and Ms. Benjamin this super fun tag game.

Big Gym Equipment

Most Wednesday mornings, before school, the primary teachers set up the gym with special equipment which is left out all day long.  This means that on Wednesday every primary student at our school has big gym equipment time.  Most of us share our gym time with another class (we get to share with Ms. Atkinson's grade one class) and we love having our friends from another grade one class with us.  Needless to say we love big gym equipment day.  Here's a short video showing you some of the things we like to do during this time.

Halloween

On Monday Oct 31st we celebrated Halloween at school.  The day began with regular school work.  We did manage to spend some time in the computer lab exploring some great Halloween activities including carving pumpkins using on line tools and playing a memory game with Halloween characters.  Between recess and lunch we got together with a third of the other primary classes and took part in the Halloween Howl.  It's a tradition at our school where we have multi aged groups compete in different Halloween relays in the gym.  Needless to say it was a lot of fun.  Unfortunately Ms. Lirenman was so busy setting up each relay she forgot to take pictures. She did manage a few, but really only just a few.  

After lunch we were finally able to put on our costumes before heading back to the gym for the primary costume parade.  We had some really great costumes and we got to go first during the parade. It was a lot of fun.  Here are some of our costumes.

We then spent a little time with our music teacher before heading back to the class for a little party.

Overall it was a really fun day and we can't wait for Halloween to come again next year.
