Things We Measure

This morning we started our measurement unit by creating posters of things we measure. As we started talking with one another we realized that we measure a lot of different things in a lot of different ways.

What are some things that you measure?  What tools do you use to measure?

  1. I love to bake. I usually follow a particular recipe and there is a lot of measuring to be done. I use a measuring cup to measure bigger quantities like flour. I also use measuring spoons to measure smaller quantities such as baking powder or vanilla essence. Sometimes I don't measure and simply guess for example a pinch of salt or a dollop of honey!

  2. I like to keep track of how tall my daughter is growing. I use a measuring tape to see how tall she has grown. Now she is about 51 inches tall. At times I make her stand next to me to see how tall she is. She is nearly at my collar bone. I wonder if I am short or is my daughter tall.
