Artists at Work

We continue to work on our self portraits.  At this time many of us are just about finished.  We can't wait to show you the final products 

Also in case you forgot we only had red, yellow, blue, black, and white paint to work with.  We had to create all are own colours from those ones.

We did it!

After only five tries we were able to "read to self" for twenty minutes in a row!

Water Movers

Today during free choice some of the children worked together to create an invention that moved water into a student water bottle. As you can see from the "precaution" equipment (plastic bins and lids and a shirt to wipe up any spills nearby), they weren't sure if it would leak or not.  Watch the video below to see what happened.

Self Portraits

This afternoon we used an iPad to take a selfie.  We then used our selfie to draw the shape of our face. We then colour mixed white paint with brown and red paint to create our skin tone.  Tomorrow we will continue to work on our self portraits. Take a look at us hard at work.

Read to Self

This morning we worked on "Read to Self" for our first time.  After going over what it should look and sound like when we read to ourselves, we found our own comfy spots around the room to read. Ms. Lirenman took some pictures of some of us.  If you look really closely you can see four children reading in the top picture.  As you probably can guess, we all picked our own spots.

For our first time, we were able to read for 4 minutes in a row without making any noise and staying in our spots. (Don't worry we have special ear/mouth phones for those of us who read outside of our heads).  Tomorrow we hope to read for even longer.

This boy is holding our special "reading phones".  When he wants to read out of his head he just brings the red piece to his ear and mouth.  It works really well.  Can you spot the four readers in this photo?

Learning Outside

Today we took a little walk around the front of our school. Depending on our grade level we were either looking for living and non-living things or we were looking at the different plants that grow on our school grounds.  We decided to take both a magnifying glass and iPad with us. We used iPad to capture what we were seeing.  Then we came back into the classroom and worked together to create a collage of what we saw.  Here are some images from our afternoon adventure.
